A house sign lives outside 365 days a year, exposed to rain, frost, UV, and everything the British weather can throw at it. So are house signs weatherproof? The short answer is yes — but the detail matters. Here's what you need to know about each material.
Natural Slate — Built to Last Centuries
Slate is one of the most weatherproof natural materials on earth. It's been used for roofing, flooring, and signage for centuries precisely because it handles moisture, frost, and UV exposure exceptionally well. Our slate house signs are cut from 10mm thick natural Brazilian slate and sealed with a specialist finish that protects the surface and the engraved lettering.
The deep V-carved engraving on our slate signs means the lettering is cut into the stone itself — it cannot peel, fade, or wash away. Painted colour inlays are protected within the engraved channel, making them far more durable than surface-applied paint.

White Corian — UV Stable & Frost Resistant
Corian is a premium solid surface material engineered for durability. It's non-porous, frost resistant, and UV stable — meaning it won't yellow, crack, or become brittle over time. Our white Corian signs maintain their brilliant white finish year after year, even in full sun exposure.
The colour inlays on Corian signs are set into the engraved grooves, not painted on top, so they're fully protected from the elements.

Reconstituted Stone (Reflective Signs) — Weatherproof & Visible at Night
Our rustic and rectangular reflective house signs are hand-cast from reconstituted stone — a dense, weatherproof material that's far more durable than painted metal or plastic alternatives. The reflective lettering is heat-laminated flush to the surface, not raised or stuck on top, making it resistant to peeling and lifting.
Guarantee: 7 years worldwide against deterioration due to climate conditions.
What About Fixing Hardware?
All our signs come with pre-drilled fixing holes. We recommend using stainless steel screws and wall plugs appropriate for your wall type to prevent rust marks. For gate posts and timber surfaces, exterior-grade screws are ideal.

Every House Sign Shop sign comes with a minimum 7-year guarantee — and our white Corian signs carry a 10-year guarantee. If your sign deteriorates due to weather conditions within the guarantee period, we'll replace it. Every order includes a free design proof before production, and all signs are individually made in our Isle of Wight workshop.
